Don't politicise Adib's case, says Wan Azizah

PUTRAJAYA: The government has called for calm following the verdict of the inquest into fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s death.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the matter should not be politicised or turned into a racial issue.
“We respect the result of the inquest. We understand the IGP has also said that the police will reopen their investigation on the incident.
“It needs to be stressed that this is not a racial case. Whoever is guilty, it is not because they are of a certain race. We are all Malaysians.
“We want justice for Adib. But we call for this not to be turned into a racial matter.
“A crime is a crime, it is not because you are a Malay or an Indian or a Chinese.
“We must remain calm. Do not incite and do not politicise this case,” Wan Azizah told reporters after launching the "Karnival Rahmah" event here Friday (Sept 27).
The Coroner’s Court has ruled that Adib's death was caused by two or more persons unknown.
The inquest – which sought to determine the events leading to Adib receiving fatal injuries on the early morning of Nov 27,2018 – saw 30 witnesses being called to give their statements.
Adib, 24, became critically injured after he and his team members from the Subang Jaya fire station responded to an emergency call at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple where a riot was taking place.
The fireman was taken to SJMC after he was found injured, before being transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for further treatment, where he later died on Dec 17, at 9.41pm. - Star
