NON-FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS, LET THE INSURANCE COMPANIES DEAL WITH THE REPORT AND CLAIMS

Image result for Malaysian non-fatal motor vehicle accident

Currently, non-fatal motor vehicle accidents are required by law to lodge a police report within 24 hours of an accident at the nearest police station. Only then will the insurance companies process the respective claims. The insured will also need to notify their respective Insurance Companies that their vehicle had met with an accident within 24 hours too.

Accident victims spent many hours at the police station just to lodge a police report, then be seen and interviewed by the investigating officer and then a photographer is assigned to take photos of the damage area of the affected motor vehicles.

Accident victims need to purchase the police report that was lodged, a report on who is at fault and official police photographs to secure a insurance claim to be make with their respective insurance companies.

Since the insurance companies will be the final decider, it is SUGGESTED that all non-fatal accidents be reported directly with their respective insurance companies, who will within 24 hours assign their insurance adjusters to estimate the repairs that need to be carried out and who was responsible for causing this accident.

The Road Transport Act could be amended to incorporate this new scheme which will relieve the burden of the vehicle owners or victims and the police. The Accident Fine schedule imposed, making the vehicle owner or drivers who had been responsible for the accident to be fined and/or summoned to appear in Court.

In this manner, a lot of time could be saved and damage repairs could be immediately be processed, approved and repairs on the affected vehicles could be carried out immediately.

Hope our Transport Minister Anthony Loke will look into this suggestion and get the Cabinet to implement this new scheme which will save everyone's time. - Mohd. Kamal Abdullah
