Scheme to replace PPR almost finalised, says Zuraida

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.
AMPANG: Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin today said the rebranded People’s Public Housing (PPR) scheme is almost finalised.
The programme will be a rent-to-own scheme, she said at an event called TenagaKita Plogging: Trash to Cash Zon 18 at Flat 940 in Pandan Indah today.
Earlier this month, the minister had said that the ministry will be launching the rebranded housing programme called Projek Perumahan Malaysia (PPM) at the end of the month.
Under PPM, these units will be sold for between RM90,000 and RM300,000.
This is in contrast to PPR units which are typically sold for RM35,000 in the peninsula and RM42,000 in Sabah and Sarawak, and can also be rented for a mere RM124 per month.
A number of politicians from Pakatan Harapan and the opposition had voiced their disagreement with this rebranding.
Zuraida said these homes will be 900 square feet and above in size.
“I’m finalising the financial packages now with the help of Bank Negara Malaysia and other financial institutions,” she said.
Zuraida hoped this new scheme will help those having trouble applying for housing loans.
The minister also spoke about the 30 families who had their homes built on state land demolished last week in Kampung Pendodong, Paya Jaras, Selangor, to make way for a flood mitigation and river-widening project.
The residents had complained they were not given sufficient notice to move out although they were informed of the state government’s intention as far back as 2015.

Zuraida said the ministry can help place them in temporary homes. - FMT
