KULIM: Data is being sought on 5 million Malaysians who are qualified for government petrol subsidies next year, domestic trade minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.
He said data had been recorded for 3 million people in the B40 (bottom 40%) income group so far. However, data was being tracked on the remaining 5 million, who are from the M40 (middle 40%) income group.
He said the ministry would discuss with the finance ministry on a special mechanism to collect data on the M40 group recipients.
Saifuddin, who is also Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP, said registration for B40 recipients was still open, while the registration period and updates for the M40 group would be notified in due course.
He said the finance ministry has allocated RM2.2 billion on subsidies for the eight million recipients. - FMT
