SHAH ALAM: Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has welcomed the arrests of several people accused of helping the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), saying it was a fair move by the police who have also been taking action against IS sympathisers.
He said other DAP leaders who support the now-defunct Sri Lankan rebel group, which has been classified as a terrorist group in many countries, should also be charged.
“It is a threat to the nation if there are politicians with positions who are involved in supporting terrorist groups and work towards spilling blood,” he said.
Bukit Aman today announced the arrests of seven men including two DAP assemblymen over alleged links to LTTE.
Among them were Gadek assemblyman G Saminathan, who is also a Melaka state executive councillor, and Seremban Jaya assemblyman P Gunasekaren.
The move drew criticism from Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy, who himself has been accused by Asri of supporting LTTE.
Police had in July last year questioned Ramasamy on the alleged links with the rebel group following police reports against him. - FMT
