Dr Wee: 42 DAP MPs but no courage to voice out public grievances in Parliament

PONTIAN: Despite having 42 MPs, DAP still lacked the political courage to convey public grievances to the Parliament, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
“As far as MCA is concerned, we only have one MP. But why have the 42 MPs from DAP failed to convey the grievances of the people?
“Especially now that we are facing so many issues, they have no political courage to speak up. This is a real problem, ” he told reporters after a walkabout at the Pontian night market on Friday (Nov 8).
Dr Wee was responding to a statement by Johor DAP secretary and Skudai assemblyman Tan Hong Ping, who criticised Barisan Nasional candidate and former two-term Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng as an ineffective lawmaker.
The Ayer Hitam MP said accusations hurled by DAP against Jeck Seng were untrue, adding that the attempt to tarnish the image of the Barisan candidate was unethical.
“In fact, they have their motive to tarnish the reputation of our candidate, ” he said.
“Tan, unless you go to Parliament every day, then it is only fair to comment. You talk as if MPs come to Parliament and do nothing, this is very unfair to Jeck Seng. It is very unbecoming, ” he added.
Dr Wee said Tanjung Piai voters should use the by-election as an opportunity to express their dissatisfaction against the government.
“If you are not happy with the government, this is high time to send a message to the government that they are not good and have to perform, ” he said.
At the same time, he pointed out that Pakatan had previously pledged to strengthen the Opposition in order to have a healthier democratic system in the country.
“In this regard, it is better to get an MP from the Opposition to make sure the voices of the people can be heard in Parliament.
“We must make sure that this government is in check.”
The Tanjung Piai polls on Nov 16 will be a six-corner fight between Pakatan’s Karmaine Sardini, Barisan’s Jeck Seng, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam, Pan Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa)’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, and two independent candidates – Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Ang Chuan Lock.
Jeck Seng was a former two-term MP for Tanjung Piai from 2008 - 2018. In GE14, the late Datuk Dr Farid Md Rafik from Pakatan Harapan won the seat with a slim 524 vote majority against Jeck Seng and PAS candidate Nordin Othman.- Star
