Razak’s lawyer demands contempt action over Azilah allegations

Abdul Razak Baginda and other parties face a RM100 million civil suit filed by the family of murdered Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibu. (Facebook pic)
PETALING JAYA: The lawyer for Abdul Razak Baginda, a former aide to Najib Razak, has urged the attorney-general to take action for contempt of court against those issuing statements about a statutory declaration by convicted murderer Azilah Hadri.
Lawyer Manjeet Singh Dhillon said discussion about allegations by Azilah could prejudice the hearing of a civil suit filed by the family of Altantuya Shaariibuu, a Mongolian woman allegedly murdered by Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar while they were with the police Special Action Unit.
During their trial, the court heard that Altantuya, a model, had a relationship with Razak.
In a statutory declaration made public today, Azilah claimed Najib, then the defence minister, had ordered him to murder Altantuya. Najib has rubbished the claims.
Manjeet said the matter “concerns and impacts” the ongoing Shah Alam High Court civil suit and, as such, was sub judice.
Altantuya’s family filed a RM100 million civil suit against Azilah, Sirul, Razak and the Malaysian government.
Manjeet said: “The Attorney-General, who is involved in the civil suit, should immediately takes steps and institute contempt proceedings against all and everyone who are coming out with these statements and prejudicing that trial.
“We have yet to see any review application and will comment further on it when we have it in hand and know precisely what is being sought and why.”

Federal police have said they have yet to see the statutory declaration. - FMT
