PUTRAJAYA: The proposed takeover of PLUS Malaysia Bhd and four other highway concessionaires was discussed on Wednesday's (Jan 15) Cabinet meeting, Lim Guan Eng confirmed.
The Finance Minister, however, declined to divulge on what was brought up in the meeting, and said a written announcement would be issued “soon”.
“The Cabinet today discussed many things, including the PLUS toll issue. If there’s any announcement, it will be in writing as it is a major announcement. Please wait for the written announcement to be issued, ” said Lim.
Lim also declined to say when the statement will be issued.
He said this to a press conference after handing over RM100mil to the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) for use in tahfiz schools, religious schools and cafeteria schools at the Treasury building on Wednesday.
On Monday (Jan 13), Guan Eng had said the proposed acquisition of PLUS and four highways related to Gamuda Bhd in the Klang Valley would be discussed at a Cabinet meeting.
Last December, Lim said a decision needs to be made quickly, as the government has to pay compensation to toll operators for freezing toll hikes. - Star
