Mohamad Apandi Ali today confirmed that he had officially tendered his resignation as Umno's disciplinary board chairperson earlier this month.
This was despite efforts by Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa to push for a meeting with him to "clear things up" in regards to allegations that Umno's leadership had interfered with the disciplinary board's action against Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein.
"I resigned on Jan 7[...] (the letter) has been (sent) and has been received," Apandi told Malaysiakini briefly this evening.
Apandi first expressed his intent to quit as the party's disciplinary board chair on Dec 25 after a hearing on Hishammuddin did not materialise.
"I did not order the postponement, there is something wrong here," he was quoted as saying by the Malay Mail.
He then gave instructions for his resignation to be tendered immediately.
However, Annuar denied allegations of interference and stressed that the "confusion" would be cleared up at a meeting to be chaired by Apandi.
Apandi, however, did not budge from his decision to quit.
