Police outrider injured while escorting convoy with Perak royalty

IPOH: A police outrider was injured in a collision with another vehicle in the convoy escorting a member of the Perak royal family near Lawan Kuda in Gopeng.
The motorcycle and car collided at the traffic light junction on KM20 of the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur Federal road on Tuesday (Jan 14).
Kampar OCPD Supt Hasron Nazri Hashim said both vehicles were assigned to escort the entourage heading from Ipoh to Makam Teja, near Gopeng, when the accident occurred about 11am.
"The 36-year-old corporal attached to the Kampar district headquarters riding the motorcycle sustained minor injuries and was sent to the Kampar Hospital.
"Two lance corporals, the 35-year-old driver and a 32-year-old passenger from the Ipoh police headquarters were not hurt," he said.
He said initial investigations showed that the policeman had stopped his motorcycle at the junction to stop other vehicles so the convoy could pass.
"Suddenly the police car hit the motorcycle, causing the outrider to fall," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act for careless and inconsiderate driving. - Star
