Warisan candidate says confident of winning Kimanis poll

KIMANIS POLL | Warisan candidate Karim Bujang says he is confident of winning the Kimanis by-election on Jan 18.
"I think the chance for Warisan is good," he told media after he was officially accepted by the Election Commission (EC) as the Warisan candidate for Kimanis during nomination today.
"My gut feeling is we will deliver (a victory) but again we cannot take it easy and we can't be too complacent," he said.
Karim (above), who was a five-term Bongawan state assemblyperson under Usno and BN respectively, is facing Mohamad Alamin, who is also a former Bongawan state assemblyperson.

"It will be a friendly fight, with no violence and violation of (the rules and laws). It will be a gentleman's fight, we will let the people decide," said Karim.
Karim was given second chance by his party to contest the Kimanis seat.
Sabah chief minister and Warisan president Shafie Apdal admitted others had eyed the seat too but he decided to nominate Karim as the candidate as the latter was the one who had filed the election petition against Anifah Aman, the former MP of Kimanis.
It is learnt that Kimanis Bersatu and the incumbent Bongawan state assemblyperson Daud Yusof from Warisan also wanted to contest the seat.
On Sabah BN chairperson Bung Moktar Radin saying that Anifah would support and campaign for BN candidate during the 14-day campaign period, Karim said everyone was free to lend their support for any candidate.
He, however, denied that Warisan grassroots were worried that the party might lose the coming battle.
"Warisan is not scared of anybody," he said when asked if the party was worried over the fact that Anifah and BN had managed to persuade all opposition parties to not contest in the by-election to avoid split votes. - Mkini
