First coronavirus recovery in Malaysia: Chinese girl allowed to return home

CORONAVIRUS | A four-year-old girl from China has recovered from the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi, Kedah.
Previously one of the 10 cases in Malaysia, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told Malaysiakini she has been allowed to leave the hospital.
“Yes, the four-year-old had been tested positive (previously) and was put under isolation for a week," he said.
“We tested her again after a week and she was negative. After 24 hours, we repeated the test and it was negative too.

“If two consecutive tests conducted more than 24 hours apart were negative, we can discharge the patient.”
On Jan 29Bernama reported that the girl had tested positive for the virus and was being treated in an isolation ward.
This is the first 2019-nCoV patient in Malaysia to be successfully treated.
“The nine other patients are stable and well,” Noorhisham added.
Later in a statement, he stressed that the new coronavirus was a treatable virus.
“This case shows that the virus can be treated and patients can recover from it, as seen in many cases reported in China," he said. “Public perception that the virus is fatal is untrue.”
Girl and family to go home soon
Meanwhile, the China Embassy in Kuala Lumpur announced that the girl and her family will be travelling home soon.
“This afternoon, a patient diagnosed with coronavirus in Langkawi was cured and (will be) discharged," said embassy spokesperson Tang Tang in a statement.
“The family will return to China soon once they receive a health certificate from the hospital.”
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad will be addressing the media at a 2pm press conference in Putrajaya tomorrow.  - Mkini
