Bersatu supreme council member Tariq Ismail has advised PKR leaders to stop talking about power transition and grow up.
This came after PKR Selayang MP William Leong claimed that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had not changed from his "dictatorial" ways and suggested the need for a "Plan B" on the power handover to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
"(Stop talking about power transition as) it creates uncertainty over who holds power.
“Unless of course, like children, they want constant reassurances from an elder statesman when he will hand over power.
"He has already said many times it will be after Apec. These guys need to grow up," Tariq (photo) told FMT.
He reminded PKR that it does not command a majority in the Dewan Rakyat to decide who should become PM.
“While PKR has won most seats, they do not command the majority to decide who should become PM,” he said.
He also cited Article 43 of the Federal Constitution, which states that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall appoint a PM from among MPs who in his judgement is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the house.
In a forum yesterday, Leong said: "The people have given him the chance to show that he is a changed man but unfortunately, after one-and-a-half years, he has not changed.
On Feb 14, Mahathir said there are people who wanted him to stay on as prime minister for another "22 years" but assured that he would leave after the conclusion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Kuala Lumpur in November.
Harapan had in the last general election endorsed Mahathir as its leader on condition that he would hand over power to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim before the end of his term as prime minister but no specific date was set.
PAS is pushing for Mahathir to stay on for a full term and wants to initiate a vote of confidence.
Anwar, when asked about a specific transition date, said he believed that it would be discussed during the Harapan presidential council meeting this week. - Mkini
