Bersatu assemblypersons in Penang have pledged their support to the Pakatan Harapan government.
Speaking on behalf of the duo, Teluk Bahang representative Zolkifly Md Lazim said: "We reiterate our stand to continue to support Harapan.
"We contested in the 2018 general election and was given the mandate to fight against the kleptocrats so that we can build a Malaysia that is strong and has integrity."
Zolkifli said the two elected representatives are with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Penang Bersatu chairperson Marzuki Yahya.
"We are here to fulfil the people's mandate, we will continue to stay with Harapan," he added.
He was responding to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who asked the duo to decide whether they prefer to be "friendly" to Harapan or join the Opposition, who are BN (2) and PAS (1).
Including Bersatu, Harapan has 37 elected representatives in the 40-member state legislative assembly.
Yesterday, Chow said Zolkifly and Bertam's Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq needed to decide as their party quit Harapan at the national level.
Their president and acting chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin was sworn-in as the eighth prime minister on Monday.
His government, dubbed "Perikatan Nasional", is supported by BN, PAS and 10 MPs from sacked PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's faction.
"The decision lies with them as we are monitoring what transpires at the national level.
"Also, the state legal adviser is studying by-election proposition in the two seats since their party had hopped," Chow added.
In 2017, Penang passed the anti-party hopping law which called for elections when elected representatives defect or quit to become Independents.
Meanwhile, Chow urged state PKR to appoint a replacement for Dr Afif Bahardin who had quit his state executive councillor post on Thursday.
He was pressured to do so by PKR due to his close link to Azmin, but remains as the Seberang Jaya assemblyperson, a seat he won in 2013.
Although state Amanah had requested to fill Afif's post, Chow said it could only be filled by a PKR representative.
Penang might emulate Selangor and release Bersatu from Harapan as the party had decided to join Muhyiddin's government.
The move includes removing Bersatu members - replacing them with Harapan candidates - from the state, local councils and mosques, villages security and development committees. - Mkini
