PETALING JAYA: What do you get when you blend country music with someone from Gombak in these trying times? A catchy tune with humorous lyrics that describes life in a time of Covid-19.
The man, who identifies as Sheith Faikis on Facebook, is behind the fun song titled “Covid-19 Blues”, which riffs off a tune from the popular animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.
The video for the tune can be viewed on his YouTube channel, Gombak Hillbilies.
In the video, the lead singer is joined by his wife and daughter as he sings and strums his guitar, and they sing alongside him and occasionally chime in with dialogue familiar to citizens across the nation.
At around the half-way mark, an adorable fluffy cat joins in the fun.
The lyrics written by the singer provide a chuckle or two as it includes the daily struggles of Malaysians navigating the movement control order (MCO) period.
One verse goes:
"I go down to the supermarket to get some supplies
Cause a man's gotta eat if he wants to survive,
The egg trays are empty let me tell ya
You're a lucky boy if you get Gardenia"
The video has garnered close to 19,000 views and many have left comments asking for more.
"I really like the music and the show! Well done. I sent the clip to my fellow Blues fans in New Orleans. You are world famous now..." said Morgan Bala.
Many welcomed the lighthearted approach the song took to remind citizens to wash their hands and to stay home during the MCO.
"Absolutely brilliant guys. Keep it up. People like you keeps us smiling at times like this. " said Kajapathy Duraimaniam.
