An online user will be slapped with multiple charges for allegedly insulting Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah on social media.
Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed (photo, above) said the Twitter user would be handed eight charges under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.
“Investigations began on March 28 against statements uploaded by the Twitter user... who uploaded obscene and insulting words towards the Agong.
“Investigations were conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act for acting with seditious tendencies and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.
"The suspect was arrested on April 3 and remanded until April 7. Investigations revealed all eight postings were found to have insulted (the Agong) and used offensive characters with intent to abuse,” Huir said in a statement.
The suspect is slated to be charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow. - Mkini
