CORONAVIRUS | Putrajaya is at odds with Singapore over the screening method for Malaysians who are crossing the straits back into Johor.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Singapore, citing WHO recommendations, is only doing swab tests for those who have symptoms.
This is despite Putrajaya asking Singapore to test all Malaysians who want to return after the island state implemented its own semi-lockdown.
"Those who have returned have been given clearance letters, saying they are clear of Covid-19 because according to (Singapore's) SOP they only did basic health screening.
"And they have been placed under self-quarantine at home.
"But we are not satisfied, and we are still in talks with Singapore," he said at a press conference in Putrajaya.
Ismail said Putrajaya wants Singapore to continue to provide temporary accommodation for Malaysians in the republic, and given food as well, as was brokered last month.
He added that the government has also directed the Health Ministry to conduct additional swab testing on the Malaysian side, to ensure those returning are truly clear of the Covid-19 virus.
The screening by Singapore was part of the condition Putrajaya had set to waive mandatory quarantine for Malaysians returning to Johor.
However, the government has said that it wanted to revise those terms.
