Three fined RM1k each in Negri for flouting MCO

PORT DICKSON: Three individuals were each fined RM1,000 in default one month’s jail by the magistrate's court here for violating the movement control order (MCO).
Security guard Hashim Mohamad Yusoff, 57, and Haslinda Sulaiman, 25, pleaded guilty when they were jointly charged before magistrate Siti Huzaifah Abdul Talib.
They were charged with violating the MCO after they were spotted by a police patrol team at a retention pond in Taman Intan Perdana in Teluk Kemang on around 7pm on March 28.
They were detained after failing to provide a satisfactory reply when asked what they were doing in a public area.
The duo were charged under Rule 7 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020, together with section 34 of the Penal Code.
Offenders can be fined up to RM1,000 or jailed not more than six months, or both, upon conviction.
In a separate case, a 22-year-old crane driver was also fined RM1,000 for the same offence.
J. Jonathan Raj had pleaded guilty after he was charged with driving without a valid reason near Taman Sri Lukut in Port Dickson at 12.45am on March 29.
Hashim and Haslinda were unable to pay the fine and will serve one month in jail. - Star
