PETALING JAYA: Touch n Go reload toll lanes along Penang Bridge have been temporarily suspended during this movement control order period.
Highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia said this decision was taken to minimise the risk of spreading the Covid-19 to motorists and customer service assistants.
“If motorists need to travel on Penang Bridge, they must top up their cards at locations such as ATM machines, convenience stores and petrol stations on the mainland.
“We hope to eliminate the need to physically interact with our customer service assistants and ensure social distancing is observed,” said PLUS Malaysia CEO Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi.
He also said it is important for motorists to have sufficient balance in their cards if they wished to travel on the bridge.
Zakaria said daily about 780 vehicles using the bridge do not have sufficient balance in their cards.
“The multi-class lane towards the Penang Bridge is also congested due to this and further delays heavy vehicles transporting essential goods to the island,” he added.
Previously, Penang police said they will allow those who want to travel from the island to the mainland if they have valid reasons to do so.
Those who work in essential services in Seberang Perai will be allowed on the Penang Bridge while those without a valid reason will be asked to take a detour to return to the island. - FMT
