(Focus Malaysia) – Lawyer Rosli Dahlan has been appointed a director onto the board of government-linked investment company Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB). It is understood that the Ministry of Finance has sent out the letter and an announcement will be made soon.
His appointment comes at a crucial moment for one of the country’s largest asset managers and as its CEO Jalil Rasheed is expected to be replaced. It is understood that a decision will be made soon.
FocusM gathers that names bandied around to succeed Jalil are either part of the old guard or industry veterans. These include Khazanah Nasional managing director Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn and Maybank group president and CEO Abdul Farid Alias.
Names are also being considered for the chairman post currently helmed by former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
The Edge on Saturday reported that Jalil might be shown the exit due to certain “issues” over his appointment as PNB CEO.
Rosli started Rosli Dahlan Saravana (RDS) Partnership, after he and four others were together embroiled in a legal dispute with 12 other lawyers from Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill. He is also a board member of UDA Holdings Bhd.
Some of his more recent public appearances as quoted by local media include being known as Covid-19 patient #33 in Malaysia after he tested positive for the coronavirus. On April 6 this year, he donated RM150,000 to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s Covid-19 relief fund.
He also represented Bersatu on April 11, 2018, when the party tried and failed to obtain leave to challenge the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) provisional dissolution.
RoS and Bersatu would eventually reach an agreement to settle the case on Aug 5 that year, some three months after Pakatan Harapan formed government. – June 15, 2020
