2-year jail term awaits those who skip second Covid-19 test, warn cops

Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed warns of stern action against offenders.
PETALING JAYA: Police this evening warned those who have returned to the country but failed to undergo a second Covid-19 test risk a maximum two-year jail sentence or be slapped with a fine or both.
“We will not hesitate to take action against such stubborn individuals,” Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed said in a statement.
He was responding to the health ministry’s statement earlier today that 620 individuals placed under the home surveillance order have yet to undergo the second test for the deadly virus.
Huzir went on to urge these individuals to step forward immediately.
Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob had warned that police would go after those who skipped the second test, which would be taken on the 13th day of their home quarantine period.
Action, he said, could be taken under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said yesterday that the ministry had identified these individuals.
“We have their data and we know where they are,” he said at a press conference. - FMT
