Confirmed: Muhyiddin has the numbers, but just barely

Malaysiakini

PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh) has proven today that he has the majority support of the Dewan Rakyat, albeit still being on the razor’s edge.
Muhyiddin's motion to remove Mohd Ariff Md Yusof as the Dewan Rakyat speaker was passed with 111 MPs in favour and 109 against.
Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon (PN-Batu Pahat), who presided the sitting, did not vote. One PN MP, Maximus Johnity Ongkili (PN-Kota Marudu) was absent with leave.
The House will vote on motions to appoint a new speaker and replace Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming after lunch. The results are expected to be the same.
Effectively, subsequent motions by three government MPs to support Muhyiddin's appointment as the prime minister and motion of no-confidence against the prime minister are now irrelevant.
It also put to rest, at least for now, the discussions between opposition parties on whether they can form a new government to oust Muhyiddin.
Moving forward, Muhyiddin will have to ensure full attendance of PN MPs during subsequent votes.
As Chang Lih Kang (PH-Tanjung Malim) remarked to the House immediately after Rashid announced the results: "(111) is not the majority".
Meanwhile, the seating arrangement for the Dewan Rakyat also indicated that Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) was definitively not siding with PN.
The party has two MPs - Baru Bian (Selangau) and Masir Kujat (Sri Aman).
The House also affirmed that Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson) was the new opposition leader while former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (IND-Langkawi) would be seated near the sergeant-at-arms. - Mkini
