Opposition questions Selangor govt's decision to sell properties worth RM45m

Malaysiakini

Selangor Opposition leader Rizam Ismail has called on the state government to explain the decision to put 77 properties under Yayasan Selangor's decision up for sale.
According to Rizam Ismail, the 77 properties worth more than RM45 million include condominiums, shoplots, semi-detached houses and more.
“These properties throughout Selangor have been tendered with the value between RM191,114 to RM3.515 million involving a total of RM45,137,043.92.”
“Selling state-owned assets through government-linked companies (GLCs) or agencies is not a new thing under the Pakatan Harapan state government in Selangor, instead it is a routine practice and has become more and more serious recently.”
“We are concerned about the financial problems, direction and strategic plans of Yayasan Selangor, including the decision to sell its assets,” said the Sungai Air Tawar assemblyperson at a press conference in the state assembly annexe building today.
Rizam stressed that selling assets to generate revenue is a short-term measure and is not acceptable as it ignored Yayasan Selangor's mandate.
Hence, he urged Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari to explain and reconsider the sale.
“I had brought this issue to the state assembly so that Amirudin can give us his explanation during the coming wrap up session, but we also ask for the sale of these assets to be stopped.
“This is still in the tender process, and it can be reviewed and withdrawn,” he said.
Sementa assemblyperson Dr Daroyah Alwi who attended the press conference with Rizam today had also reminded the state government not to forget the intention and function of Yayasan Selangor.
She revealed that she was one of the beneficiaries of Yayasan Selangor and praised the foundation that had helped to support many students to become professionals in Selangor.
“The foundation must continue to take care of the welfare and also provide educational assistance to the people of Selangor,” said Daroyah, who is not an independent assemblyperson after she was sacked by PKR last month.
For the record, Yayasan Selangor is a state education welfare body that provides educational assistance such as study loans to the people of Selangor.
Currently, the chairperson of Yayasan Selangor is Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari. - Mkini
