Food stall operator arrested in Petaling Jaya for obstructing police personnel

 

PETALING JAYA: A food stall operator near the Jalan Othman market here has been remanded for obstructing police personnel from dispensing their duties

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the incident occurred at around 3.40pm on Monday (Oct 5).

"My men were conducting Covid-19 compliance checks in the area when they came across a man and a woman working at a stall who were not wearing face masks.

"They advised the two to wear face masks and to present their MyKads for a check but were ignored by them," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 6).

He said the woman then raised her voice and told off the police personnel, adding that the woman then said that she does not have an identity card because she is a foreigner

ACP Nik Ezanee said that the woman then took her phone out and began recording the policemen as they performed their duties.

"The 49-year-old woman was arrested and later remanded for two days for not cooperating and obstructing (police personnel)," he said adding that the woman and the man were also fined RM1,000 for not wearing face masks.

ACP Nik Ezanee said on the same day, police who were conducting compliance checks arrested a man for employing foreign workers without a valid permit.

"My personnel were conducting checks at SS22/11 Damanasara and checked premises there.

"They found that the 36-year-old man did not have valid permits to employ foreign workers.

"He also failed to provide entry log books, thermometers and sanitizer," he said, adding that they also detained the 46-year-old foreign woman

ACP Nik Ezanee said that the police also issued 27 compounds to individuals for not wearing facemasks and not observing physical distancing.

"Let the public here be warned to always comply with the recovery movement control order standard operating procedures(SOP) and always cooperate with public servants who were performing their duties to curb the spread of Covid-19.

"Stern action will be taken on any individual who fails to comply with the SOP or cooperate," he said.
