Rabbiul Awwal in the arabic calendar means 'spring time'. Well it is October now and it is fall or autumn in the northern hemisphere. So the arabic calendar is totally not in sync with the seasons. It is a moving calendar.
The arabic calendar cannot tell time. Unless it is pegged to another calendar for example the Gregorian Calendar, the old Persian and Jewish calendars etc. By just referring the arabic calendar alone you cannot know in what month was the rainy season say 10 years ago. You cannot say from the name of the month (Rabbiul Awwal) if this is the month of spring. And you cannot say in what month will be spring time or the rainy season five years from now (in case you are building a dam).
Anyway here is an Arab guy who is a bit of a party pooper:

When is Rabi’-ul-Awwal?
Rabi’-ul-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic calendar, occurring after Muharram and Safar. In 2020, it will begin on either 18th October or 19th October, subject to the sighting of the new moon.
The literal meaning of Rabi’-ul-Awwal is ‘the first spring’, but this has no relevant meaning today, because the Islamic calendar follows the moon rather than the solar seasons. Thus, Rabi’-ul-Awwal will begin in autumn this year.
Why is Rabi’-ul-Awwal important to Muslims?
Muslims consider Rabi’-ul-Awwal to be significant because the following events took place during this month:
- The birth of the Prophet the final Messenger to whom the Qur’an was revealed.
- The Hijrah of the Prophet (saw), when he emigrated from Makkah to Madinah. The Islamic calendar is dated from this event.
- The death of the Prophet on 12th Rabi’-ul-Awwal in the eleventh year of Islam.
Not just the month of Rabbiul Awwal but the date ie 12th of Rabbiul Awwal is significant.
Obviously many Muslims believe this is the date in which the prophet was born. The Arab guy in the video says there is no evidence to support this view. Too late Abdooool. Today is already a public holiday.
Then 12th Rabbiul Awwal is also the date in which the prophet is believed to have died.
One more event (that I recall reading somewhere) that took place on the 12th Rabbiul Awwal was the first Friday prayer in the first mosque in Islam ie the Masjid Quba. This is related to the hijrah in No. 2 above. There could be other views, I dont know.
Important things happened not just in the month of Rabbiul Awwal but also on the 12th of Rabbiul Awwal.
If there are any statisticians here try calculating the probability of three major events for example Tunku Abdul Rahman's birthday, the day the Tunku died and Hari Merdeka all happening on the same day ie 31st August? That would be cool.
