KOTA BARU: Some 20 motorists with "balik kampung" plans were directed to turn back as they were found in violation of the regulations set by the authorities during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.
The 20, mostly travelling with family members, were ordered to turn back when passing the roadblocks mounted by the police in the state.
Kelantan police chief, Deputy Commissioner Shafien Mamat said the figure was recorded since midnight yesterday, the first day of the CMCO.
He said most of the motorists obtained letters from their respective police stations for inter-state travel but the reasons stated in their letters could not be accepted.
"Others were told to turn back because they did not provide the approval letters.
"The rest with the approval letters were asked to return to their respective states as the reasons stated in the letters were not valid such as returning to Kelantan for holidays and visiting parents," he said.
He said Kelantan police estimated more than 2,000 motorists returned to the state since Sunday night prior to the implementation of the CMCO.
Besides police personnel, he said the roadblocks were also manned by health officers.
Two of the roadblocks were set up in Pasir Putih, one each in Jeli and Gua Musang, manned by 28 police personnel. - NST
