Child in Rambai cluster infected at kindergarten – report

A toddler who tested positive for Covid-19 is believed to have caught the disease from his caregiver at a childcare centre in Bukit Rambai, Malacca.

Harian Metro report yesterday quoted state Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairperson Rahmad Mariman saying that the caregiver had visited a Covid-19 "red zone" in Selangor.

The caregiver had come into contact with the child upon returning to Malacca. In addition, the caregiver's family members were also infected.

"For now, the situation is still under control, and we have directed the kindergarten to close for cleaning and disinfection.

"All positive cases have been isolated and are being treated at Malacca Hospital," Rahmad was quoted as saying.

Previously, on Dec 29, 2020, the Health Minister announced the Rambai cluster's discovery after the cluster's index case in Petaling sought testing after developing symptoms and tested positive on Dec 27.

It was found to have spread through family and social contacts in Malacca Tengah and Alor Gajah districts of Malacca, the Petaling district in Selangor, and the Rembau district in Negeri Sembilan.

As of noon yesterday, 17 people have tested positive out of 123 people screened.

For the record, Bukit Rambai is part of the Melaka Tengah district. It is classified as an "orange zone" at the time the Rambai cluster index case tested positive, and is still an orange zone as of yesterday.

An orange zone is one that has recorded 21 to 40 Covid-19 cases over the past 14 days. - Mkini
