GUA MUSANG: Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has reiterated that his heart is still with the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party, and he will stick with it, come what may.
The Gua Musang Member of Parliament said he has no intention of joining Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I am an Umno member. As a politician, I will not easily change parties, even though I am a good acquaintance of Dr Mahathir's. He has been close to me for a long time.
"Both of us are seniors from Umno, but he is not in Umno anymore, he is trying to (manage) his party," he said.
The Umno Advisory Board chairman said this to reporters after launching the Gua Musang Umno delegates meeting in Bukit Chekati here, today.
He said this when asked to comment on demands by various quarters for him to quit Umno after sharing a stage with Dr Mahathir recently.
Razaleigh, better known Ku Li, said he only collaborated with Dr Mahathir with one aim and not more than that.
"Because we are trying to overthrow the existing government. I think the government has no legitimacy because it did not get a mandate from the people", he said.
"However, the biggest issue is that he (Dr Mahathir) is serious in helping the people, because the political situation is unstable and the country's economic problems have been prolonged.
"Due to this problem, investors are not coming to our country to invest, because they do not trust (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Yassin's) leadership as Prime Minister.
"Worse still, the people are suddenly faced with sudden unemployment because there are no job opportunities," he said.
Razaleigh said the problems faced by the country now cannot be solely blamed on Covid-19, and that more must be done to tackle the various issues. - NST
