Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the nationwide emergency proclamation is not a military coup.
"Let me assure you that a civilian government will continue to function.
"The emergency proclamation by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is not a military coup and curfew will not be enforced," he added in a televised address this morning.
Muhyiddin said the government needed certain powers to effectively combat the worsening Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier today, the Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin confirmed that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented to the government's request for a state of emergency until Aug 1.
Muhyiddin also assured that he will not use his emergency powers to interfere with the judiciary, adding that it will function as normal.
"The judiciary will continue to be the beacon of justice in our country and I will never interfere in the business of the court," he added.
