Nik Nazmi, 4 MPs get RM10m letter of demand over PAC report

PKR's Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says that he is one of five opposition MPs to have received an RM10 million letter of demand from the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) over a press conference held by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which detailed a conflict of interest within its management.

He said the letter of demand concerned the findings of the PAC report which was presented at a press conference held in Parliament on Nov 18, 2020, in response to the Report of the Approximate Committee titled ′′Land Sales of Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Federal Territories Ministry."

"Among the claims in the letter of demand given to me is YWP seeking RM10 million in damages over my statement on the above."

Nik Nazmi said three other MPs - Tan Kok Wai (Cheras), Hannah Yeoh (Segambut) and Lim Lip Eng (Kepong) - have also been served letters of demand by YWP, all of which are dated Dec 10.

It was previously reported that YWP has initiated legal action against PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh over the same matter.

The PAC report had noted a conflict of interest in the minister's and Kuala Lumpur mayor’s involvement in the foundation.

This is because the foundation was discovered to have purchased land from DBKL, an entity also led by the minister and the mayor.

In the report, Wong noted that despite being registered under the Companies Act 1965, YWP was not monitored by any authoritative entity, including the National Audit Department.

Meanwhile, the PAC also found that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) does not have any standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place for the disposal or sale process of its land.

The MPs had urged Putrajaya to abolish YWP over its alleged involvement in the purchase of land owned by DBKL.

Nik Nazmi said that Syahredzan Johan, the lawyer representing the MPs, has responded to YWP’s letter of demand on Dec 26.

He also questioned why the YWP had failed to take action against Umno's Noraini Ahmad, who was the PAC chairperson at the time the report was being prepared.

“Why didn’t YWP take action against the other PAC members, including Noraini Ahmad, who is a friend of the minister and Umno leader, federal territories minister and YWP chairperson Annuar Musa? " he asked.

Nik Nazmi said he would not be intimidated by such actions and would continue to carry out his duties as an elected representative and fight for his constituents. - Mkini
