PMO: RM35m is to build three halls in Pagoh, not one

The Prime Minister's Office has denied that RM35.43 million is being spent to build one hall in Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's Pagoh constituency.

Instead, the PMO said the funds are to build three community halls in the parliamentary constituency namely in Gersik, Tangkak (RM13 million), Bukit Pasir, Muar (RM16.66 million) and Bukit Kepong, Muar (RM5.77 million).

"The construction of these three halls is to fulfil the needs of the local community.

"The procurement for the three projects was not done through direct tender but followed procurement procedures via tender which was approved by the Finance Ministry," they said.

They added allegations being made on social media regarding the allocation are malicious and irresponsible.

Previously, PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir urged Muhyiddin to confirm or deny if RM35.4 million in taxpayer funds will be spent for a hall in the constituency of Pagoh.

This is after a letter from the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) to the Works Department describing the matter went viral.

Akmal also questioned whether the spending was appropriate at a time when the country was struggling to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

Muhyiddin is in his seventh term as the Pagoh MP. - Mkini
