Pothole death: DBKL says it repaired Jalan Tengah nine times

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said it had conducted multiple repairs to the road where a senior citizen died after hitting a pothole there on Jan 3.

"The site of the accident had been under observation and maintenance work was carried out by the public service delivery transformation (PSDT) team nine times since September 2020.

"The last time the road was resurfaced was on Dec 26," it said in a statement.

DBKL said it has now appointed a consultant to investigate the cause of the constant damage to the road.

It also conveyed its condolences to the senior citizen's family.

Ho Yan Yee, 75, was found dead along Jalan Tengah in Kuala Lumpur, in the direction of the Mid Valley Megamall.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the motorcyclist rode over a pothole, leading to the victim falling to the ground," Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya was quoted as saying.

DBKL, in its statement, said it conducts regular checks and will immediately repair damages to roads.

It also urged the public to report any potholes to DBKL through its website, hotline, mobile application and other communication channels.

DBKL said it recorded 11,979 potholes in 2020 and all of them were repaired.

"7,735 of them were detected through proactive patrols by DBKL while another 4,244 were through public complaints," it added. - Mkini
