KOTA TINGGI: A pregnant housewive had to drive for two-and-a-half hours to find a relief centre when her house in Taman Kota Jaya, near here, was flooded last Saturday.

Despite the fatigue and exhaustion, Fazila Hamdan, 29, had to continue driving after four relief centres said they were full.

“I had to drive with my children sleeping in the passenger seats. They got tired after helping me move some of our belongings to another car driven by my husband.

“Two relief centres at Taman Daiman were full. We had to turn back to Taman Kota Jaya, when we were informed the two centres there were also full.

“I contacted the Civil Defence Force (APM) and told them I was pregnant. Finally, we got a place at the Kota Tinggi Vocational College,” Fazila, who is six months pregnant, told Bernama.

She said she and her husband, Shahabuddin Sakiman, 34, and their children, aged between three and seven, had started driving at about 1.30am and finally sought shelter at the college at about 5am.

Fazila, a housewife, said the water level had risen rapidly in Kota Tinggi causing many houses to be flooded.

However, she was grateful that there were nurses at the centre which, she said, was quite comfortable. - FMT
