KOTA KINABALU: An investigation into a viral video allegedly showing a group of Covid-19 patients consuming alcoholic drinks while at a low-risk quarantine and treatment centre here is ongoing.
State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the Sabah Health Department and the police do not discount the possibility that the patients had brought the beverages into the facility themselves, or that they had help from those working at the centre.
"The Sabah Health Department does not treat the incident lightly and will not hesitate to take action against staff involved, based on evidence.
"Disciplinary action will be taken in line with Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1993 [P.U.(A) 395]," he said during a virtual press conference.
Masidi, who is also the state Local Government and Housing Minister, added that the management of the said centre had started to conduct on-the-spot checks on patients' bags upon admission to prevent similar incidents from recurring. - NST
