Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) is ready to mobilise some 15,000 members of its fraternity, including those from its alumni, for its Post-Flood Volunteer Mission to help flood victims in several states.
In a statement issued today, UiTM said the mission, an initiative of the ‘UiTM Prihatin’ programme, will involve volunteers from UiTM branches nationwide.
"UiTM feels that this post-flood mission is very important and requires a large workforce.
"Services and assistance to be provided are post-flood cleaning services in institutions and homes in the affected areas," the statement read.
Disaster committees of each branch campus will operate 24 hours daily and are ready to receive information to provide necessary assistance, especially for UiTM residents affected, the statement said.
UiTM vice-chancellor, Prof emeritus Mohd Azraai Kassim, in the statement, said the initiative was a much needed humanitarian aid mission to ease the burden of flood victims.
“The floods are a test for all of us and at the same time brings out the spirit of togetherness and care for all those affected, especially UiTM residents," he said.
Under the UiTM Prihatin programme, a flood disaster fund was also launched, and contributions can be made through the Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) trust account: 12177010005741.
“For more information, contact senior co-curriculum officer, Co-curriculum Center, Student Affairs Division, Ku Hadzrill Jeeffry Ku Hamzah, at 03-5544 3590 or via email kuhadzrill@uitm.edu.my," the statement said.
