KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah (pic) has sent a letter of condolence to Queen Elizabeth II on the passing of her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
In the letter on Saturday (April 10), which was shared on Istana Negara’s Facebook page, His Majesty described Prince Philip as a beacon of light known for his outstanding charisma and philanthropic endeavours.
As a nation, Malaysia had fond memories of Prince Philip’s many visits to the country, said Al-Sultan Abdullah.
Al-Sultan Abdullah recalled that he and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah had the pleasure of meeting Prince Philip on numerous occasions and the honour of hosting him in Taman Negara, Pahang in 1989.
"His Royal Highness will always remain in our hearts," he said in the letter.
The King said Prince Philip would be remembered for his steadfast support for Queen Elizabeth II, his unwavering commitment to the Commonwealth of which Malaysia is a proud member and his efforts to promote stronger ties between the United Kingdom and Malaysia.
"Our thoughts are with Your Majesty, the bereaved members of the Royal Family in this moment of sadness and sorrow . May God bless His Royal Highness's soul,” wrote Al-Sultan Abdullah.
