KUALA LUMPUR: With lottery outlets closed during the movement control order (MCO) period, illegal 4D syndicates used withdrawals from Singapore, China and Cambodia to run their operations, said the deputy home minister.
Jonathan Yasin said several measures were taken to curb such activities, including identifying the syndicates, monitoring the opening of illegal outlets and cooperating with other agencies to arrest those involved.
He said police carried out spot checks and detained more than 7,700 individuals involved in illegal fund withdrawals between January and August.
He was replying to Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah), who asked about the action taken to curb illegal 4D outlets and if a drop in government revenue during the MCO has forced Putrajaya to increase the number of special draws from eight to 22.Jonathan said the special draws came under the purview of the finance ministry.
4D shops were allowed to reopen for the fully vaccinated on Sept 14. - FMT
