Covid-19 (Oct 22): 6,630 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 6,630 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,420,222.

The number of people requiring hospitalisation for Covid-19 is dropping at the national level, down 11 percent over the past one week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, such as Kuala Lumpur (+13 percent) and Sarawak (+14.8 percent), according to the CovidNow website.

Overall, the number of Covid-19 cases is in decline. The R-naught as of yesterday was 0.86. A R-naught of below 1.00 is desirable because it suggests that the spread of Covid-19 is slowing down.

Only Kuala Lumpur has a R-naught of above 1.00.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 21), where 6,210 new cases were reported, is as follow:

Selangor (1,027)
Sarawak (725)
Sabah (651)
Johor (595)
Kelantan (540)
Terengganu (485)
Perak (384)
