National Recovery Council (NRC) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin had briefed representatives from Pakatan Harapan on the Covid-19 situation in their maiden participation in the council, said the main opposition coalition.
Their participation is part of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) inked between the government and Harapan that promised more engagement with the opposition and reforms in exchange for not obstructing key government legislative agenda.
Harapan said four of their representatives were present during the NRC meeting yesterday, comprising PKR’s Subang MP Wong Chen, DAP’s Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, Amanah’s Kuala Selangor MP Dzulkefly Ahmad and Upko’s Bernard Dompok.
“Following the MOU signed between Harapan and the government on Sept 13, four Harapan representatives formally attended the NRC meeting,” Harapan said in a statement.
It said apart from the Covid-19 situation, the three-hour meeting included briefings on the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises and emergency food aid.
“Harapan’s representatives presented their views and proposals in the meeting.
“Harapan will continue with the bipartisan approach and provide constructive criticism and opinions to ensure the country’s recovery can be improved,” it said.
The statement was jointly signed by the four representatives who attended the meeting.
They added that the next bipartisan NRC meeting is expected to take place in another two weeks. - Mkini
