PN likely to contest all 28 seats in Malacca polls

MALACCA POLLS | Perikatan Nasional chief Muhyiddin Yassin has thrown the gauntlet, announcing that his coalition will likely contest all 28 state seats in the upcoming Malacca polls.

He said this had been agreed to in principle by the peninsula-based PN parties, namely Bersatu, PAS, and Gerakan.

"In principle, they have agreed to negotiate so that all 28 state seats contested will be divided based on the situation and conditions, and we hope to achieve victory.

"It is very likely that we contest in all 28 seats," he said at a press conference in Pagoh, Johor today.

Muhyiddin said he has also expected that Umno would reject cooperation with his party, and will be willing to face them in two, three, or four-cornered fights.

"This is not a problem for us," he said.,

In 2018, Bersatu contested six state seats in Malacca, of which they only won two - Paya Rumput and Telok Mas.

Both these seats had a sizeable number of non-Malay voters, who were more inclined to vote for Pakatan Harapan - which Bersatu was a member of.

Meanwhile, PAS contested in 24 out of 28 seats and won none.

They only received more than 20 percent of the vote in two seats - Serkam and Ayer Molek.

Gerakan only contested one seat - Pengkalan Batu - which it also lost to DAP.

preliminary analysis has indicated that even with Bersatu and PAS combined, PN will be in for a tough battle and may even risk getting wiped out in the state election. - Mkini
