Shahidan shrugs off Arau Umno Youth complaint letter

Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim has shrugged off a complaint letter against him filed by Arau Umno Youth members.

The letter purportedly demanded Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan to take disciplinary action against Shahidan for giving a speech contradicting his party’s stance to refuse cooperation with Bersatu.

The letter also claimed Shahidan was waving Bersatu and Umno’s flags together at the event.

When met in Kuala Lumpur today, Shahidan said it was just a matter of differing opinions.

“This (complaint letter) is a matter of views. There is nothing wrong with giving out views.

“No decision has been made at the division party meeting, and this is just a view from Arau Umno,” he said during a key handover ceremony at Residensi Desa Satu Mas in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur today.

Umno previously vowed not to cooperate with Bersatu, as it sees the latter as its splinter party whose members betrayed Umno.

This, however, is not the view of all Umno members, as some see cooperation as vital for Umno to stay in power.

When asked about Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s remark yesterday who reiterated the party’s refusal to work with Bersatu, Shahidan refused to comment further.

“We will issue a statement soon on all political matters,” he said.

The cooperation with Bersatu remains a dividing issue for Umno members, with Zahid standing firm on refusing to work with the splinter party.

While both parties currently belong in the same federal coalition, the two have yet to agree on working with each other for the upcoming Malacca state election.

Perikatan National (PN), which comprises Bersatu and PAS, has vowed to fight on its own if there is no clear signal from BN on the cooperation between the two parties.

Previously, Zahid pulled Umno out of PN despite some opposing voices, choosing instead to stick with its BN partners MCA and MIC. - Mkini
