MALACCA POLLS | Ayer Keroh incumbent assemblyperson Kerk Chee Yee is drawing attention to the plight of a voter who was turned away after being told her name had been struck off the register.
This is despite the fact that her finger was not inked.
The female voter told Kerk from the DAP that she was informed a vote has been cast in her name.
This was when she arrived at the polling centre at the Bukit Beruang Hall of the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council.
Kerk urged the authorities to investigate the case as soon as possible.
"The lady complained to us that she hasn't voted and wasn't inked, but her name was crossed off.
"Therefore, she is unable to vote for this time."
"I hope this will be investigated and the voter will be going to make a police report," he told Malaysiakini.
The officer in charge of the polling station declined to comment.
Kerk is running in Ayer Keroh against Yong Fun Juan (MCA/BN) and Micheal Gan Peng Lam (Gerakan/PN).
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan held a press conference in another state constituency - Ayer Molek - to highlight allegations that a party representative was chased out of a polling centre.
66-year-old Mohd Bazain Yusof, who represents Harapan’s Ayer Molek candidate Mohd Rafee Ibrahim of PKR, said he filed a police report on the matter at the Kandang district police station.
In the report sighted by Malaysiakini, he alleges the incident took place at 10.15am when he was informed by a polling agent he had to leave at SK Bendarhara Seri Maharaja Kandang Melaka, in the Kandang district.
Mohd Rafee Ibrahim is running in a four-cornered fight that also involves Umno/BN's Mohd Rahmad Mariman, Bersatu/PN's Mohd Fadly Samin, and independent Ahmad Muaz Idris. - Mkini
