PETALING JAYA: Campaign posters of Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan in the Melaka election have been vandalised.
Bersatu, a component of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, has asked party members in Melaka to lodge police reports.
It also called on the authorities to take action against any element of “thuggery” and “extremism” found during the campaigning.
Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan said no one should be permitted to damage the campaign materials of other parties.
“Such acts must be stopped immediately,” he wrote on his Facebook page today.
He said his party members had complained to him after finding out that several posters had been vandalised.
“I have instructed the PN machinery in other constituencies to carry out checks,” he added.
Earlier, Pakatan Harapan candidate for Pengkalan Batu Danish Zainuddin also claimed that election campaign notice boards in Taman Rumpun Bahagia, Melaka Sentral and the Seri Siantan public housing area had been vandalised.
“We don’t want to accuse anyone but such acts raise a lot of suspicions,” said the 25-year-old DAP candidate.
He condemned the irresponsible practice and intimidation, but said he and his supporters were “not afraid and will continue to meet voters”. - FMT
