Malacca Umno deputy chief Mohamad Ali Mohamad is finding it hard to swallow the fact that he lost in 17 out of 18 army voting streams in Sungai Udang during the Malacca polls last week.
Mohamad Ali said this was the first time such an outcome had transpired and that something was "off".
"Win or lose is part of competing, but winning only one voting stream among army voters is very shocking.
"I feel that something was off when I lost 17 out of 18 (army) streams. This matter is being reviewed, and maybe there were unexpected manoeuvres by certain quarters," he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
He was also surprised by the outcome as Perikatan Nasional's Mohd Aleef Yusof was not a local or known to locals until the election.
Mohd Aleef pulled off a surprise victory in Sungai Udang last Saturday with 43.65 percent of the vote.
Sungai Udang was one of two seats PN won in the state election, the other being Bemban.
Voting against BN is not uncommon among the military.
During the 2018 general election, only 53.81 percent of military votes went to BN. Another 25.15 percent went to PAS, and 20.25 percent went to Pakatan Harapan.
In the Tangga Batu parliament constituency, where Sungai Udang is, only 50.3 percent of army votes went to BN, while 27 percent voted for PAS and 22.75 percent voted for Harapan. - Mkini
