Processions will not be allowed for the Thaipusam celebration next January, said Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
This is part of the SOPs that have been formulated for the upcoming Thaipusam celebration on Jan 18, she said.
“There is the silver chariot procession in the celebration of Thaipusam.
“For the Thaipusam celebration, processions are not allowed as we are facing a new (Covid-19) variant,” Halimah said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
She was responding to Steven Choong Shiau Yoon (Independent-Tebrau), who asked whether the Chingay parades during Chinese New Year will be allowed next year.
The Chingay parades will also not be allowed, she said.
Earlier, V Sivakumar (Pakatan Harapan-Batu Gajah) asked about the SOPs for Thaipusam.
Halimah said the Thaipusam SOPs were prepared after having engagement sessions with 10 leaders from the local Hindu community, along with representatives from the National Security Council and the Health Ministry.
The minister also said they have come up with the SOPs for Christmas.
“We have prepared the SOPs for the Christmas celebration and we will bring the suggested SOPs on Dec 14,” she said. - Mkini
