PETALING JAYA: Seat negotiations within Pakatan Harapan for the upcoming Sarawak elections are nearly done, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim says, but there is room left for cooperation with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
“We already have an understanding with DAP and Amanah, and in some seats, maybe with PSB,” the PKR president said during a visit to Song in Kapit, Sarawak, today.
“But that has not been settled (cooperation with PSB), and that’s important to PH.”
Anwar said PKR would likely be contesting 25 seats, but this was still being finalised. A total of 82 seats are up for grabs in the polls.
Seat negotiations have been a hot topic among opposition parties, particularly between PKR and DAP, who have disagreed over the constituencies each would contest in the Dec 18 elections.
Just yesterday, Sarawak PKR acting chairman Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh said at a press conference the party was hopeful it could put up candidates in Sinadin and Piasau, both contested by DAP in 2016.
“We are not trying to be biased. But based on our data, our candidates have good credentials and can be trusted to deliver in the seats,” he contended.
DAP Sarawak has named a number of candidates for the elections, but has not yet released its full lineup. - FMT
