PETALING JAYA: Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said travellers in the vaccinated travel lane (VTL) between Malaysia and Singapore as well as the Langkawi travel bubble will need to be tested for Covid-19 every day after their arrival.
He said this was one of the revised preemptive measures being implemented on travellers in light of the Omicron Covid-19 variant.
“Travellers from the UK, US, Australia, France and Norway who are under home quarantine will need to wear digital tracking devices,” he added.
According to Khairy, as at Dec 6, 43 countries had reported Omicron cases.
He said in light of this development, the health ministry was taking further preventive steps on travellers arriving into the country via the VTL land, VTL air, Langkawi travel bubble, One Stop Centre for short-term business visitors and travellers from countries that had reports of the new variant.
“For travellers in Category 1 until 4, a Covid-19 PCR test must be done two days before leaving for Malaysia. This replaces the previous procedure of undergoing the test at least 72 hours before they travel,” he said.
