DBKL officer fined for receiving bribes from cleaning companies

Court tells DBKL officer to set a good example for his four children and not commit any more crimes.

KUALA LUMPUR: An administrative assistant officer of Kuala Lumpur City Hall was fined RM18,000, or 15 months’ jail in default, for accepting a bribe of RM2,700 from two cleaning company owners.

Sessions Court judge Rozina Ayob passed sentence on Mohamed Helfien Nordin, 45, after he pleaded guilty to six counts of receiving a bribe.

The money was deposited into his bank account at Maybank Medan Tuanku branch, Jalan Medan Tuanku 1 here between Jan 2014 and June 2017.

The judge also advised the accused to set a good example for his four children and not commit any more crimes.

For today’s proceedings, the court also took into consideration 28 other charges after the accused pleaded guilty to six charges.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab said 86 other charges against the accused at two different sessions courts here will be heard on Jan 19.

On March 12 last year, Helfien pleaded not guilty to 120 charges of receiving bribes totalling RM82,700 from five cleaning contractor company owners under Section 165 of the Penal Code. - FMT
