IPOH: Cave temple managements in the Kinta district will know on Wednesday whether they can continue operating or must vacate their premises, after they were issued eviction notices recently.
Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the matter was discussed today with the director of the land and mines department and the Kinta district officer, adding he would hold a meeting with state opposition parties tomorrow, Bernama reported.
“Then I will bring up this matter at the state executive council meeting on Wednesday to get their views, after which we will inform the temple managements on further action,” he said at a media conference after an event on a road project here.
Meanwhile, MCA claimed that the land and mines department had agreed to revoke the notices, according to The Star.
Yesterday, the media reported that the Nam Thean Tong cave temple in Gunung Rapat, here, had received a notice from the Kinta district office last Friday to vacate the cave within 30 days.
The cave temple, said to be 155 years old, is a frequently visited spot and located next to the Sam Poh Tong cave temple, another popular tourist destination.
It is understood that another 19 cave temples here are located on government land and have been issued with the eviction notices or face action.- FMT
