No crisis in Umno, Tajuddin’s removal normal, Puad tells Annuar

Puad Zarkashi (left) has told Annuar Musa it is normal for Umno to remove and replace members appointed to the Supreme Council.

PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has hit out at Ketereh MP Annuar Musa for warning that Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s removal from its Supreme Council will spark a crisis and cause a rift in the party.

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi told Annuar, the Ketereh Umno division chief, it was normal for the party to remove and replace members appointed to the top leadership.

Puad said a crisis would only occur in the party if there was an instigator trying to aggravate the situation, pointing out that Tajuddin was appointed to the council, not elected.

“Annuar is trying to instigate something by saying the action taken against Tajuddin risks sparking a crisis in the party,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Annuar had been dropped as Umno’s information chief in the past. The same thing had happened to Ahmad Maslan and Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, but there was no crisis in the party.

“When one goes against the party’s decision, it is mandatory for that leader to be removed and sacked.”

Puad, who is also the Rengit assemblyman, pointed out that Annuar did not say a word when former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin sacked Tajuddin as the Prasarana chairman in 2021.

On June 24, Annuar predicted that more Umno leaders would be sacked as it was understood that several others in the party had been branded as political enemies of the party leadership.

Annuar, who was sacked as Barisan Nasional secretary-general last year, said that even though there were provisions for the party president to remove a Supreme Council member, such actions would not augur well for Umno.

Tajuddin, who is the Pasir Salak MP, was one of 13 people appointed by the party president to the Supreme Council.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Tajuddin was dropped from the council as he had been critical of the party. - FMT
